Understanding the Keywords View in Site Topic
Step-by-Step Instructions for Using the Keywords View
Step 1: Access the Keywords View
Open your Site Topic Report.
The Keywords View is typically the first view you'll see when you open a report.
Step 2: Upload/Load Your Keywords
Upload or load your keywords into the report:
• Keywords can be downloaded from tools like SEMrush or Google Search Console.
If you’ve connected Search Console, Site Topic will also show impressions and click-through rates for your keywords.
Step 3: Explore the Keywords Grid
On the left-hand side of the Keywords View, you’ll see a list of keywords. Site Topic automatically categorizes these keywords into hierarchies:
• Type: Broad category (e.g., gaming console).
• Subcategory: Narrower than type (e.g., PlayStation).
• Brand: Specific brand (e.g., Sony).
• Product Line: Product family (e.g., PlayStation 5).
• Model: Specific model (e.g., PS5 Slim).
Step 4: Understand Labels and Label Groups
Keywords are broken down into labels:
• Labels are parts of the keyword (e.g., “PS5” is a label for “PlayStation 5”).
• Some labels are implicit (e.g., “PlayStation” is implied in “PS5” even if it’s not explicitly in the keyword).
On the right-hand side, you’ll see label groups:
• These are categories or attributes related to the keywords (e.g., color, size, style).
• Example: A label group might include “volcanic red controller” for PlayStation 5.
Step 5: Interact with Label Groups
Click on label groups to explore related keywords and attributes.
• Example: Click on “color” to see keywords related to different PlayStation 5 controller colors.
Use this functionality to discover patterns or trends in your keywords.
Label groups are specific to the keywords in your report:
• If you load a different report, the label groups will change based on the new set of keywords.
This ensures that the categorization is tailored to your data.
Step 6: Categorize Keywords into Multiple Labels
Keywords can belong to multiple labels:
This allows for flexible categorization and deeper insights into keyword relationships.
• Example: “PlayStation 5 Disk Edition Bundle” might have labels like “gaming console,” “PlayStation,” “bundle,” and “disk edition.”
Step 7: Combine Labels into Topics (Optional)
Labels can be combined to create topics:
• Topics represent broader themes or categories that encompass multiple labels.
• Example: A topic might combine “PlayStation,” “gaming console,” and “accessories.”
